The city is now a system with many levels interconnected. With time and experience gained, it became clear which layers of the system are convenient, and which ones need to be modified or changed completely. What analyzes this experience is called urbanism.
By answering all these questions, urbanists propose measures that can improve the quality of life in the city. Alternatively, in order to reduce the amount of visual waste, enter a design code for advertising signs.
The personality of a person is also shaped by the environment. Social well-being, economy, interaction between people depend on the conditions that the urban environment provides us with. In favorable conditions, the crime rate decreases, new businesses are opened and the influx of tourists is growing.
Recently they began to actively study the urban environment. But already now urbanists are attracted to the sphere of state administration in many developed countries. In Austria, England, China, the USA they train employees in urban studies. Ukraine has not yet reached this level.
In addition to everyday problems, such as housing and communal services tariffs, iconic places, cultural and aesthetic components, and organization of urban space are also important for a modern inhabitant of a metropolis. Based on THESE numerous surveys, it was decided to increase the importance of urbanism, because the urban environment actively influences the mood of citizens.
Basically, urbanists are citizens with a socially active attitude or "creative class". People who are engaged in improving life in an urban environment are mostly representatives of creative professions.
Richard Florida, an American economist and author of the theory of the creative class, in his work speaks of the beneficial interaction of "city fathers" (officials) and "creative class". The essence of the interaction is as follows: officials create special conditions for urbanists, and then, in turn, use their own abilities to transform urban space. "Tolerance, Technology, Talent" are the three T's that Florida believes summarize all the qualities of the "creative class."
The main thing in urbanism is that anyone can become a participant in the transformation of the city. It all depends on the people and their organizational skills. Often activists unite to resolve a specific issue.
