A pool is one of the most expensive and longest-lasting parts of a home, so it should be designed together with the architecture and landscape rather than added later. We design outdoor and indoor pools, spas and the terraces around them: shape, depth, equipment, covers, lighting and the connection to the house.

We start with how you'll use it - for swimming laps, relaxing or the kids, year-round or just in summer. That decides size, heating, cover type and where it sits on the site. We design the pool together with the landscape, and a larger example of a water and spa zone is the sports complex with a pool and spa in our Carpathian cottage settlement.

Q&A

How much does a pool cost?

It's calculated individually and depends on size, depth, finishes, equipment, cover and site conditions.

Concrete or fiberglass?

Concrete offers complete freedom of shape and depth and lasts for decades. A fiberglass shell installs faster but comes in set shapes.

What fencing does a pool need in Washington?

A barrier at least 48 inches high with self-closing, self-latching gates that open away from the pool, under the state's adopted pool code.

Can I swim year-round in Seattle?

Yes, with a heated pool and a good cover, or an indoor or covered pool with proper dehumidification.

When should the pool be designed?

Ideally with the house and landscape, so utilities, equipment access and terraces are planned together.

Do you handle service?

Yes, we help with seasonal preparation, service, water treatment supplies and restoration.

Pool Design and Turnkey Delivery

We design the pool and support every stage: shell construction and equipment installation, service and seasonal preparation, water treatment supplies and restoration of existing pools. The overall cost is calculated individually and depends on your wishes and the site.

Why a Concrete Pool

A cast-in-place concrete shell is a demanding process, but with proper care such a pool lasts for decades. Its main advantage is freedom of shape and depth: round, rectangular, freeform or infinity-edge, with a constant depth, a shallow children's area or a stepped entry. Finishes range from mosaic and porcelain tile to membrane liners in almost any color.

A pool can become a home water park with counter-current swim systems, slides, waterfalls, massage jets and a spa. Underwater and terrace lighting make it beautiful and safe after dark.

Pool Covers

A cover keeps leaves and dust out, reduces evaporation and cleaning costs, and with children and pets in the house, acts as a safety barrier. Automatic slatted covers can be mounted above the water, above the water in a housing, or below the waterline with the mechanism fully hidden - that option is built in during construction. They open and close with a single button. Custom-fit safety covers are made to the exact shape of the pool, can carry the weight of an adult and are ideal for long breaks or the off-season.

Pools in Seattle and Washington State

In the Pacific Northwest, the swimming season outdoors is short, so many clients choose either a heated outdoor pool with a good cover or an indoor or covered pool and spa that can be used year-round. Electric heat pump pool heaters are a popular, efficient choice in our mild climate, and a well-fitting cover keeps that heat in overnight. For indoor pools, dehumidification and ventilation are as important as the pool itself, to protect the building from moisture damage.

Washington has adopted the International Swimming Pool and Spa Code, which requires a barrier at least 48 inches high around residential pools, with self-closing, self-latching gates that open away from the pool. We plan fencing, gates and alarms into the design from the start, so safety looks like part of the landscape rather than an afterthought. On sloped lots, drainage and retaining walls need engineering attention too. We design the terrace and garden around the pool together - see our landscape design page and our piece on terraces.

Safety

Safety is designed in: slip-resistant surfaces around the pool, a code-compliant barrier or safety cover where there are children, lit steps, and equipment rooms that children can't access.
