JUNG Systems and Switches

JUNG Systems and Switches

JUNG is one of the best-known German manufacturers of electrical installation equipment. We won't dwell on the obvious - top quality, attention to the smallest details, and more than a century of successful work around the world.

The company was founded in 1912 by the German electrical engineer Albrecht Jung, who invented and patented a pull-cord switch with an unusually short actuation path. Within a short time he opened a small factory in Schalksmühle, where the company is still based. In 1968 JUNG launched its LS 990 switch range, which is still considered a design classic and has been in production for more than half a century.

The brand stands for high-quality workmanship, reliability, style, and refinement. That is not a small combination, and for us as architects it is rarer than you might think. We look for exactly this kind of product, because our work is about giving clients the best and most advanced solutions, so that a design not only reflects their taste but also works reliably for years.

JUNG makes much more than sockets and switches. The range includes:

  • KNX-based smart home systems;
  • lighting, blind, and shade control;
  • room thermostats and climate control;
  • door intercom systems;
  • USB sockets and charging modules;
  • sockets and switches.

JUNG is known above all for simple forms, elegant lines, and a wide range of colors and materials, which lets us as designers create a clean, stylish interior without worrying that electrical fittings will spoil it. The ranges are regularly updated, and the changes cover not only design but also build quality. A few years ago, ultra-slim aluminum switches and sockets that sit flush with the wall, like a concealed door, became available, and they look superb in a minimalist interior.

In short, JUNG combines thoughtful design and ergonomics with strict production quality, so its devices work for many years. As for price, the range covers a wide spectrum, just like the color palette, and because the products last so long, price and quality are well balanced.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does the switch and outlet brand matter if it's mostly hidden by furniture? It isn't mostly hidden. A typical room has visible switches and outlets at several sightlines, and cheap electrical fittings are one of the fastest ways to undermine a carefully designed interior, since they are touched daily and seen constantly.

Can JUNG systems be integrated with smart home technology? Yes. JUNG's smart home range goes well beyond switches into a broader automation system, which matters for clients who want lighting, heating, and security controlled together rather than through separate apps.

Is the ultra-slim flush-mount finish available in all JUNG ranges? The slim aluminum flush-mount options are among the brand's newer offerings, and we specify them for minimalist interiors where visible switch plates would break a clean wall.

Smart Control Without the Clutter

In our projects we try to keep the number of devices on each wall to a minimum: one multi-function keypad by the door instead of a row of separate switches, lighting scenes instead of individual dimmers, and sockets placed exactly where the furniture plan needs them. A well-planned wall with two or three elegant devices looks far calmer than one covered in mismatched plates, and it is easier to use every day.

Planning Switches and Outlets in a US Home

In the US, devices must be UL-listed and fit American wall boxes, so European ranges are only available where the manufacturer offers versions for the North American market; ask about this early. Whatever the brand, plan outlets on the drawings before construction: by the bed, above counters, for the robot vacuum, and for charging in the entry, with one consistent series throughout the home. See our article on smart home systems.

Coordinating electrical fittings with the rest of a project's materials and design language is exactly the kind of detail our material selection service is built to handle.
