In the historical center of Kharkiv, right behind Dzerzhynsky Square, a wonderful opportunity has emerged for us to create and implement a project for a small apartment covering an area of 116 m2 in a minimalist style, with a unique feature in the form of a bathroom.

The client wanted their property to have a modern, minimalist look, with a realistic plan for execution and a quick turnaround. By tight deadlines, we mean that the deZZign team had only three months for the project and its realization.

We began with the demolition of floors, walls, and windows. Some furniture pieces were preserved and transformed into modern solutions (wardrobe and kitchen) - yes, it was possible. For the flooring materials, we used ceramic granite from Mirage and vinyl, which harmoniously intertwined with each other, connecting like a "puzzle," and visually there are no discernible differences without careful examination. However, it took quite some time to find textures and colors that complemented each other, forming a cohesive whole.

In the bathrooms, we used ceramic tiles from Mirage, and as a distinctive feature of the project, we incorporated Mutina ceramics with a unique and unmatched texture. The custom furniture was produced by Ukrainian manufacturers, with most elements and frames made of particleboard and the facades using MDF/glass/ceramics.

The kitchen was retained from the previous owner, allowing us to replace the appliances, facades, slightly rethink its design, and create a backsplash. A similar situation occurred with the wardrobe. We preserved all the mechanisms and valuable elements while updating the particleboard with a modern alternative.

To create a high-quality minimalist design, you don't always need significant investments, work with brands, or renowned designers. What you need is your desire, attention, and time. At deZZign, we will select materials that suit any budget, as there are now numerous proposals in our market from quality furniture manufacturers, modern upholstery makers, and related products. Ukrainian designers are also gaining prestigious positions and recognition in the field of design worldwide.

Questions about the project

How long did the design and renovation take?

Three months for both the project and its realisation. It is a 116 m² apartment in the historic centre of Kharkiv, next to Derzhprom, finished in 2021.

What was kept from the old apartment?

The kitchen and the wardrobe. In the kitchen we replaced the appliances and fronts, reworked the layout a little and added a backsplash. In the wardrobe we kept the mechanisms and solid parts and replaced the old particleboard with a modern board.

Which materials are on the floors and in the bathrooms?

Mirage porcelain stoneware and vinyl, matched so closely that the joint is hard to see. The bathrooms use Mirage tiles and Mutina ceramics with a texture that became the signature of the project.

Who made the furniture?

Custom furniture was made by Ukrainian manufacturers: carcasses mostly in particleboard, fronts in MDF, glass and ceramics.

Does a minimalist interior need a big budget?

Not always. What it needs is attention and time. We select materials for the budget you have. See apartment design and bathroom design.
