Lesnoe House was conceived as a contemporary private residence in the Lesnoe settlement near Kharkiv. From the beginning, the project was shaped by a strict construction budget.
The goal was not to make the house look expensive. It was to make every investment count.
Instead of filling the architecture with costly finishes and unnecessary complexity, the design concentrated resources on the elements that would define the character of the house: its proportions, natural materials, facade and connection with the landscape.

Stone as the Architectural Identity
Natural stone became one of the key elements of the facade.
The material was not introduced as decoration, but as a way to give the relatively restrained architecture texture, weight and permanence. The remaining surfaces were deliberately quieter, allowing the stone to carry much of the visual character.
This was typical of the project's approach to budget: not everything needs to be expensive - the important things need to be right.

Inside and Outside
A transparent attached pergola created a transitional space between the house and the landscape.
Rather than treating the terrace as an independent addition, it became an extension of the living environment - protected when necessary, but visually connected to the garden.
The interiors followed the same restrained philosophy: high-quality materials, calm proportions and minimal decoration. There was no intention to create a luxury showroom. The architecture itself was expected to provide the character.

Quality Within a Budget
The project required careful decisions at every stage.
High-quality materials were used where they could meaningfully affect the result, while simpler solutions were applied where additional expense would bring little architectural value.
Because DeZZign was involved in both design and construction, these decisions could be considered together - from material selection and detailing to construction methods and coordination. For a project with a hard budget, this is often more important than simply specifying expensive materials.
Good architecture is not about spending more. It is about spending deliberately.

A Project Interrupted
Construction was underway in 2022 when Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine brought the project to a halt.
The house was subsequently severely damaged during the war, and the original project will never be completed.
That makes Lesnoe different from a conventional completed portfolio project. It documents not only an architectural idea, but also a moment in its realization - a house that was already becoming architecture when circumstances outside the project made its completion impossible.
What remains is the design itself: the proportions, material decisions, stone facade, transparent pergola and the underlying principle that defined the project from the beginning.

Architecture within limits. Quality without excess. A project interrupted before it could become complete.
The disciplines behind Lesnoe House - architecture, interior design and construction - are the same ones we bring to every project, regardless of how that project's story ultimately unfolds.
