Choosing a roof for a private house

Choosing a roof for a private house

One of the most important details of your future home is its roof. Today the market is littered with various offers and types of roofing systems to cover any demand with supply. Each type of roof has its own advantages and disadvantages, which are discussed in the terms of reference when designing a house. The roof system design, as well as heat and mass transfer characteristics, in other words, heat loss, sound absorption properties - sound insulation, visual component - home aesthetics, as well as its operational characteristics (reliability, ease of maintenance) will be determined from the type of roofing.

The main types of roofing - 7:

  • Ceramic or natural tiles
  • Metal tile
  • Copper roof
  • Decking
  • Composite tile
  • Rebate roof
  • Bitumen roofing.

These types of roofing are caused by factors such as:

  • Characteristics of roofing materials (Project calculation)
  • Low cost / market availability
  • Easy installation / maintenance.

Ceramic roofing / natural

A wide variety of varieties such as coatings and textures are available on the market. Common are burnt clay, colored glaze and engobe. The service life is about 100 years. The advantages include environmental friendliness, inertness to aggressive environments, noise isolation, resistance to fires, floods and frosts. A significant drawback is the huge weight of the structure - about 40 - 60 kg / m, which imposes high or increased requirements on the foundation, a serious rafter system, as well as the walls of the building. Plus, there will be high estimates for work, since such a roof should be entrusted exclusively to experienced specialists.

Metal tile

This type of coating is known to us from the beginning of the 2000s. Such a roof is a galvanized sheet of steel, with a zinc content of at least 250 g / m2 with a special polymer coating. The thickness of such tiles is from 0.4 to 0.6 mm, due to which the maximum light weight is achieved, in contrast to ceramics - 10 times, about 4-6 kg. Of the advantages, it should be noted that this is a very durable and affordable material on the market, it has been working properly for 10 to 20 years, but there is one significant drawback - noise.

Copper roof

One of the most premium and expensive types of roofing is copper. Such a roof has a beautiful impressive appearance, patinates over time, creating a luxurious and noble aging effect. The service life is from 5 to 100 years, and when patinated, copper oxide forms a film on the surface of the material, which will fix the pattern and will exist without problems for decades, if not centuries. Of the shortcomings, it is worth noting that it is difficult to predict what copper will look like in a few years, a galvanic couple with other metals, and of course - the price.

Decking

In essence, such a roof is a cheaper analogue of a metal tile. The differences are the absence of complex beautiful transverse kinks + the absence of a polymer coating. Such a roof is suitable for those for whom design is not particularly important, but practicality, cheapness and durability are important. In addition, the installation speed of such a coating is one of the highest in this segment and does not require highly qualified specialists.

Composite tile

This type of tile is the best option for those who want the maximum for their money. Composite tile is a metal sheet, sometimes multilayer, which is covered with basalt on top. Composite tiles are characterized by durability - about 50 years, optimal weight, sound insulation, but also is far from the most affordable material.

Rebate roof

The finger roof is an elite material, which is a variety of materials, such as galvanized steel, copper, zinc-titanium roof or aluminum. The most tenacious spirit levels are copper and zinc titanium. Such a roof is made up of flat sheets that are mounted together by bending and special rebate locks on a roof slope of 7º. Of the minuses, 2 factors are worth noting: not the best heat / sound insulation and high electrical conductivity.

As a conclusion, the deZZign team would like to note that the choice of roof depends on the Project at home, and the project on your wishes and TK. The market now has a huge range of materials and specialists who will competently and efficiently install the roof and you will not think and worry about it for many years.
