The union of concrete and nature in the work of Govaert & Vanhoutte Architects

Govaert & Vanhoutte Architects have designed a special building especially for the Belgian manufacturer of concrete structures Enjoy Concrete.

The Belgian company Enjoy Concrete produces various concrete elements. It is located in Verne in the west of the country. In production, they are very careful about such a rough material as concrete. The company says that working with this material is a whole art.

Govaert & Vanhoutte Architects faced a daunting task. It was necessary to create a noticeable structure that does not violate the harmony of its landscape. To build a building in which offices and production will be combined, and most importantly, to use concrete in the project, since it is the main product of the company.

This is how the bureau coped with the task. Enjoy Concrete was turned into a huge solid block of concrete. The dimensions of the slabs from which the headquarters are built are 6 by 3 meters. The building is divided into two parts: the first one contains offices, the second part is reserved for production and is located at the rear of the building.

The meeting room gives the building a personal touch. Its aspect ratio is the same as that of the rest of the building, but it extends beyond its borders by almost 12.5 meters. At first glance, the structure looks fragile, but steel and concrete hold the entire structure firmly together. At night, the room is illuminated with red light thanks to the lamps on the panoramic windows.

Another feature of the building is the digital drawing, which can only be seen from a great distance. The picture is a set of points that add up to the image of the trees of the Damme canal, you just have to move away. This trick is made possible by the unique "graphic concrete" technology. Despite its solidity and gray color, the building fits perfectly into the nature of West Flanders, emphasizing its beauty.

As a result, the project exceeded all Enjoy Concrete's expectations. Now the building attracts the eyes of passers-by and arouses keen interest among tourists.
